Tourism in Havana
Havana City is appealing to be visited at any time of the year; given spring weather conditions are quite permanent in the island. We highly recommend visiting and enjoying:
The beaches
Cuban beaches are regarded among the best in the world. Heading East in a 20 minutes long ride by car, you will find Santa Maria del Mar Beach and Guanabo Beach.
In Matanzas province, 1 hour car ride from Havana, you will find the Hicacos Peninsula where the best Cuban Beach is located: Varadero Beach. Varadero is provided with extended kilometers of fine and white sand and crystalline water, all under our tropical sun.
Besides this, there are many scuba diving centers, a unique chance for exploring our coralline platform of the south shores of the island. In addition, there are ship trips to visit the keys and small islands of the area.
The city
Each Havana City street embraces its own history hint; its
famous building columns are unique architectural elements. Havana City itself is a book written by it's neighborhoods, balconies, parks, and its mystical sea wall (Malecón). We suggest you to take a walk around Old Havana, the antique area of the city, to places such as: Marti's
Promenade, the Port Avenue, the Missions Avenue, the Capitol, Santa Clara Convent, the Royal Force Castle, the Cathedral Square, the Central Park and the Colon Park. Go up over San Francisco de Asis Convent tower and behold a splendid panoramic of the whole city and the bay. Have a beer at La Acera del Louvre (Prado's Promenade), a meeting place for intellectuals and artists. Walk along our seawall (Malecón), talk to the people sitting by it. We are friendly, happy and easygoing people. We will give you a reliable spectrum of the Cuban reality.
The music
Everyplace, every hour you will be listening to the famed Cuban Salsa Music which will irresistibly make you feel like dancing. Do not hesitate joining our parties; Cubans will be happy to be your dancing partner. (See a list of 15 night clubs options)
The cuban cuisine
The Paladares are small private restaurants which offer typical Cuban cuisine menus based on pork, chicken, and beef meat main dishes, together with rice and black beans, vegetables and roots side dishes. Our dessert: guava marmalade with cheese slices. Beer is a typical beverage to accompany the menu as well as tropical fruit juices, cocktails and Havana Club brand rum, as suitable. At the end, we suggest you tasting a strong Cuban coffe along with the special aroma of an excellent Cuban habano.
These restaurants also count with a wide offer of international cuisine menus. In this case we suggest you visiting Chinatown, located just a few blocks from the Capitol building. (See a list of 50 different paladares in Havana City)
